Cajun Veg Rice and Prawns Fry

Today’s meal recipe consist of Cajun veg rice and Prawns fry (we just love prawns). This is an easy recipe and a tasty one too… Proof of the taste??? We managed to eat everything before we realized we should have taken a pic or two for the blog. Lesson for next time – “Take a pic first then eat”. 

Argentinian prawns

 Cajun Veg Rice Recipe


  • Rice – 1 cup ( I used Thai jasmine rice, you can use any rice you want to)
  • Green Capsicum – 1 (you can use any color)
  • Green Beans – 1 cup (diced)
  • Garlic – 4 pods (finely minced)
  • Ginger – 1 inch piece (finely minced)
  • Onions – 1 medium size (finely minced)
  • Oil – 1 tbsp
  • Cajun powder – 2 tsp
  • Cayenne Pepper powder- 1/2 tsp
  • Red chilli powder – 1/2 tsp
  • Turmeric powder – 1/4 tsp
  • Salt – to taste


  • Heat oil in a pan and saute onions until translucent, add ginger and garlic and fry them till the rawness disappears.
  • To this add the capsicum and beans and fry for a few minutes till slightly cooked.
  • Add the washed rice and mix well with the veggies.
  • At this stage add in all the spice powders.
  • Add 2 cups of water (1 cup rice: 2 cups water) and cook till the water dries up and the rice is fluffy.

Prawns Fry


  • Prawns – 1 Kg ( I used Argentinian prawns, you can use any other variety)
  • Red chilli powder – 1 tsp
  • Turmeric powder – 1/4 tsp
  • Red wine vinegar – 1 tsp (optional)
  • Cajun powder – 1 tsp
  • Coriander powder – 1.5 tsp
  • Oil – For shallow fry


  • Clean the prawns well and add the spices mentioned above and marinate for 30 mins.
  • Shallow fry the prawns till they curl up and cooked well.

Note – The recipe and ingredients mentioned above serves 3 – 4 people for 1 meal.
